Mike Mirams, Chair of Trustees and founder of Life’s Essentials, celebrated his 60th birthday in April 2010 with a party. Guests were asked not to bring gifts for Mike but to make a donation to Life’s Essentials instead. The result was over £600 collected, which will be boosted by more than £100 extra when the Gift-Aid tax refund is claimed. The money is to be split between two projects in Sri Lanka:
- A water supply installation in a children’s home in Nugawela,
- Providing bedding and necessities for a children’s home in Makandura.

Both of these homes care for war-affected children, many of whom have lost both their parents
